Kettering Family Education Center at Carillon Park
27,900 sq. ft.
Two-story addition to existing historical museum celebrating the Dayton region’s unique innovations and entrepreneurial spirit.
Addition provides new grand entry for Carillon Historical Park, including parking, covered vehicular drop-off, spacious lobby and expanded gift shop.
Addition houses the original Deeds Barn, where Charles Kettering and his “Barn Gang” developed the first reliable ignition system for automobiles.
Addition includes atrium rotunda with clerestory lighting from cupola above. Rotunda houses a children’s carousel with Dayton-themed inventions in lieu of horses.
Entire building, both existing and addition, uses an energy-efficient heating and cooling system featuring water-source heat pumps and geothermal wells.
